Ashland Business Owner, Arrows Football Players Present $2,000 Donation for Breast Cancer Awareness

ASHLAND — A local business owner and two standout Ashland Arrows football players brought both generosity and school pride to City Hall this week, delivering a donation that will directly support families battling cancer right here at home.

On Tuesday, Trenton Cooper — owner of Shingle Monkey and Recoop Home Solutions — visited the office of Ashland Mayor Matt Miller alongside Arrows players Killian O’Brien and Jeff Hickey to present a $2,000 donation benefiting Breast Cancer Awareness through the Ashland County Cancer Association.

A Donation Inspired by the Game — and by Loved Ones Fighting Cancer

The funds were raised during the Arrows’ October playoff matchup against Mount Vernon. Cooper challenged the team to score as many points as possible, pledging $100 per touchdown and $500 per turnover to support breast cancer awareness. The Arrows delivered eight touchdowns and forced two turnovers — prompting Cooper to round the total up to an even $2,000.

“Breast cancer awareness hits close to home for Killian, myself, and several players who have loved ones fighting breast cancer,” Cooper said. “We wanted to give back to the community that supports us.”

Cooper and the players presented the check to Mayor Miller, along with a special gift — an Ashland Arrows football jersey, which will be signed by the team and displayed proudly in the mayor’s office.

“Breast cancer awareness is so important, and the Ashland County Cancer Association does an outstanding job supporting families right here at home,” Mayor Miller said. “It’ll stay right here in the community and take care of our own people.”

Miller also reflected on the uniqueness of the visit.

“In eight years as mayor, I don’t think I’ve ever had an Ashland High School football player in the office,” he said. “I’m honored you stopped by — and we’ll display this jersey proudly.”

Cancer Association Responds: “Your Generosity Makes a Difference”

Following the donation, Angela Woodward, Executive Director of the Ashland County Cancer Association, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the organization.

“On behalf of the Ashland County Cancer Association, I want to express our deepest gratitude for this generous $2,000 donation. One in eight women will experience breast cancer in their lifetime — and I am grateful to be one of the survivors.”

Woodward added:

“For 78 years, our mission has been to walk alongside our friends and neighbors facing cancer, providing care, hope, and support right here at home. It is truly my honor to help carry that mission forward.”

She also offered a special thanks to those involved:

“A special thank you to Trenton for his incredible generosity, and to Killian and Jeff for representing Ashland with such pride and compassion. Your generosity will make a direct and meaningful difference for families in our community who are fighting breast cancer. We are sincerely grateful.”

The donation will remain entirely within Ashland County, supporting local patients who rely on the Cancer Association for financial assistance, transportation, nutrition support, and emotional care.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the mayor reflected on the spirit of giving.

“Here we are at Thanksgiving — a perfect time to say thank you. We have so much to be thankful for in our great community.”
