Ashland County Park Commissioner Invites Public for Coffee, Donuts, and Conversation at Corner Park

ASHLAND — Ashland County Park Commissioner Robert “Bob” DeSanto is inviting residents to join him for coffee and donuts at the Ashland Corner Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, where he’ll be chatting with early voters and community members about the Park District’s upcoming levy renewal and small increase on the ballot.

“I just came from voting myself,” DeSanto said. “Tomorrow, we’re putting up a little coffee and donuts for the people that are early voting. I thought I’d get out and see how it’s going.”

The Ashland County Park District is seeking support for a renewal and modest increase to its levy to maintain local parks, trails, and facilities. DeSanto said the funding helps keep “parks well-maintained and operating,” supporting everything from mowing and repairs to restrooms, trail paving, and community events like the Candy Cane Trail and the Ashland BalloonFest.

“We’ve got big events coming up next year for the 250th birthday of our country,” he added. “We’re really working hard to keep our parks looking good, bathrooms clean, yards mowed, and walking paths open. People love that we’re paving some of the trails — families with kids and older folks especially enjoy them.”

While the Park District is currently preparing for the Candy Cane Trail opening in December, DeSanto emphasized that the current focus is encouraging residents to get out and vote ahead of next Tuesday’s election.

“I love the people in this county, and I hope the people love us back,” DeSanto said with a smile. “So come on out, grab a cup of coffee, have a donut, and let’s talk about our parks.”

The event will take place at Ashland Corner Park from 10 a.m. to noon, with donuts sourced from The Brew and other local bakeries.
