Ashland’s Own Reaches New Heights with State Highway Patrol Promotion
Ashland has always taken pride in its people — the ones who rise through hard work, commitment, and a passion for serving others. Today, the community celebrates one of its own as Lieutenant Bradley R. Bishop, former post commander of the Ashland Post, has officially been promoted to the rank of Staff Lieutenant with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Recognized in a special ceremony at the Patrol’s Training Academy in Columbus by Colonel Charles A. Jones, Staff Lieutenant Bishop now takes on an expanded leadership role as assistant district commander at the Bucyrus District Headquarters. The promotion was made effective October 19.
Bishop’s career began back in October 1998, when he entered the 132nd Academy Class. After earning his commission in April 1999, he was assigned to the Ashland Post — the community he would proudly continue to serve and represent for most of his 27-year career.
His journey includes leadership roles across the region:
Assistant Post Commander at the Norwalk Post (2010)
Service at both the Wooster and Ashland Posts as sergeant
Recipient of the Criminal Patrol Award in 2016
Promotion to Lieutenant in 2021 to lead the Ashland Post
Continued leadership within Professional Standards
Always pursuing excellence, Bishop also earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in criminal justice from North Central State College in 2021 — proof that learning and growth are lifelong missions.
Bishop’s promotion reflects the pride and strength of the Ashland Post, a station long known for exceptional service and dedication. His leadership now extends beyond county borders, helping guide operations throughout the Bucyrus District.
Ashland couldn’t be prouder to see one of its finest continuing to climb, continuing to lead, and continuing to represent the values that make this community special.
Congratulations to Staff Lieutenant Bradley R. Bishop — Ashland salutes you!
