Bigger Barn, Bigger Scoops: Yoder’s Red Barn Ice Cream Expands with More Flavors, More Space, and Sweet New Memories

ASHLAND — Something sweet is rising again in Ashland, and this time, it’s bigger, better, and packed with even more memories in the making.

At Yoder’s Red Barn Ice Cream, what started years ago as a small 720-square-foot building is quickly transforming into a brand-new 1,560-square-foot destination, a dream years in the making for owner Harley Yoder & Amanda Yoder.

And while the smell of fresh drywall and paint may not quite rival waffle cones and chocolate drizzle just yet…. give it time.

A Dream Taking Shape

After a winter full of construction, long days, and steady progress, Yoder says the new Red Barn is finally coming together, piece by piece.

“It’s coming together,” Yoder said. “Everything’s falling into place.”

Inside, crews are pushing forward with drywall, painting, and an upcoming epoxy-style floor, while electrical work and equipment installation are right around the corner. Outside, plans are in the works for a cement patio out front and a familiar, relaxed setup in the back with gravel and picnic tables, a nod to the Red Barn’s roots.

Originally targeting an April 1 opening, Yoder admits that timeline won’t happen this year.

“April first is not going to happen,” he said with a smile. “But we’re hoping sometime between April 1 and May 1.”

The new building isn’t just larger, it’s built for the future.

Customers can expect:

An expanded lineup of ice cream, jumping from 52 flavors to 64 flavors

A large walk-in freezer to keep the scoops coming

Improved workflow for faster service

Gas grill and fryers for expanded food options

Plans for two soft serve machines, including a possible flavor burst system

And yes…. air conditioning (finally!)

“It’s just bigger. More efficient. More space,” Yoder said.

And for longtime fans worried about their go-to treat.

“The banana split’s not going anywhere.”

While new menu items and additions are still being worked out, Yoder says this season will be about experimenting, growing, and improving along the way.

“We’ll try some new menu items during the summer,” he said. “We’re just going to build on it as we go.”

That philosophy extends beyond the menu. Seating, layout, and overall experience will continue to evolve even after opening day.

“It’s a lot just to get it open,” Yoder said. “It won’t be perfect right away, but we’ll keep adding and improving.”

A Community Staple Reborn

For Ashland, the Red Barn isn’t just an ice cream stand, it’s a place tied to childhood summers, family traditions, and now, a brand-new generation of memories.

What once stood as a small, beloved building is now becoming something bigger not just in size, but in vision.

From more flavors and new food options to expanded space and modern upgrades, one thing remains unchanged:

The heart behind it.

And soon enough, as the doors open and the first scoops are served, Ashland won’t just be revisiting old memories.

It’ll be making brand-new ones, one banana split at a time.
