Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus Resigns
BUTLER, Ohio — Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus has submitted a formal letter of resignation that will be considered by village council during tonight’s meeting. Once accepted, council president Rick Thron will assume mayoral duties in an acting capacity, village officials confirmed.
Amanda Reimer, council clerk and police department administrator, said the resignation letter has been received but will not be released publicly until council formally accepts it.
“There’s still a process that has to be followed,” Reimer told ACP News. “Once council approves the resignation, the letter will be available.”
The resignation comes amid ongoing legal troubles for Dingus. Earlier this week, he appeared in Mansfield Municipal Court, where he faces two counts of voyeurism. His attorney, James Mayer III, entered not guilty pleas. Mayer is also representing Dingus in a separate felony case pending in Richland County Common Pleas Court.
In 2025, Dingus was indicted by a Richland County grand jury on four charges: aggravated assault, vehicular assault, falsification, and dereliction of duty. Those charges stem from a July 11, 2025 incident in Butler in which Dingus is accused of striking a man twice with his vehicle during a chaotic encounter. That case remains pending.
The voyeurism charges arose from a January 2026 investigation involving alleged video recordings inside a teenage victim’s bedroom. Investigators issued two summonses under Ohio Revised Code 2907.08(A), one for each alleged incident.
Both criminal cases remain pending. Village officials said additional information regarding Butler’s leadership transition will be released following tonight’s council meeting. ACP News will continue to follow the case and publish the resignation letter once it becomes public.
