There were some exquisite quilts and afghans on display at the 2023, Ashland County fair, along with beautiful dresses, placemats, and an array of beautiful handiwork. A lot of time was invested in these needlecraft projects, and the results were especially beautiful to look at. Sunday-September 17th was opening day at the 2023 Ashland County Fair and what a day it was.
The Warriors Gospel band opened up the fair week with beautiful Gospel music at the Cheyenne Spidel Pavilion at 1:30 p.m. bring praise and worship music flowing out into the grounds.
Better look out! These ladies are handy with a skillet. Not only can they cook, but they can throw. The winners for the ladies ages 18-60 are as follows: 1st place was given to Shannon Craft, 2nd place was awarded to Mary Schalmo, and 3rd place winner was Sandy Burkholder.
The winners for the lades age 60 and over, coming in in 1st place is Patty Fliger, 2nd place goes to Delila Stiteler and 3rd place winner is Ruby Murphy! Congratulations to all the winners of the Women’s Skillet Toss. Thanks to all for participating in another fun event at the Ashland County Fair, 2023.
There were many participants this year, for the Antique show, so many beautiful and unique pieces, it was difficult to choose a winner in each category. The antiques were judged by grouping similar pieces together and choosing the best in each category. The first category in line is Flow Blue porcelain dating back to the 1820’s. The winners of this category are, in 1st place, Janis Miguel DeLeon, 2nd place, Mori Hirst, and 3rd place Tammy Brockway.
Westmoreland Glass, dating back to the late 1800’s, the 1st place winner Mori Hirst, 2nd place to Cheri Denney, and 3rd place is awarded to Katie Hutson.
Burmese glass is unique for its pink blush color. There is a 1st place winner Mori Hirst and 2nd place winner, Cheri Denney.
Teapot-China or Porcelain, beautiful pieces in this group, and we have three winners. First place winner is Mori Hirst, 2nd place winner is Beth Chepote, and 3rd place winner is Marline Smart.
Next to the porcelain teapots is the Fan Vase. The 1st place winner of the Fan Vase is Sandra Tunnell, 2nd place, Roma Bantz, and 3rd place winner is Mori Hirst.
The Bride’s Baskets with holder is a unique showcase item, drawing your attention to the pink fluted glass basket and its aged metal holder. First place in this category goes to Cheri Denney, 2nd place to Susan Denbow, and 3rd place to Mary L. Jansen.
Egg Cups are each one uniquely created to hold a beautiful porcelain egg. These egg cups are owned by our 1st place prize winner Cheri Denney, 2nd place winner Katie Hutson, and 3rd place winner Marline Smart.
Wash Bowls & Pitchers can date back to the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s. As you can imagine, if you find a basin and pitcher dating back to the late 1700’s that is still intact, you have a rare find. The winners of the antique wash bowls and pitchers displayed at the Ashland County Fair, in 1st place is Cheri Denney, 2nd place, Mori Hirst, and 3rd place, Donna Jean Stauffer.
Mini Hen on Nest is a popular antique collector’s item. These hens didn’t lay any eggs, but they brought their owners a nice blue ribbon in first place for Janis Miguel DeLeon, 2nd place ribbon for Virginia McKinley, and the 3rd place ribbon for Teri Drake.
Covered Compote 1st place winner is Roma Bantz, 2nd place winner is Janis Miguel DeLeon, and 3rd place winner is Katie Hutson.
Character Glass Tumblers are always a fun antique to collect. These tumblers brought a 1st prize placement to Ada Sue Workman, 2nd place to Pennola Nolan, and 3rd place to Mori Hirst.
An Antique Meat Clever was the source of the winning ribbons for this next group. First place for the antique meat cleaver was awarded to Derek Russell, 2nd place to Nolan Robinson, and 3rd place to Barb Queer.
Antique Child’s Mug 1st place winner is Katie Hutson, 2nd place is Jennifer Willis, and 3rd place Barb Queer.
Antiques Serving Tray winners are in 1st place, Pam Potter, 2nd place Riley Smith, and 3rd place, Mary A Denney.
Antique Thermos ribbon winners are, in 1st place Mori Hirst, 2nd place John Retherford, and in 3rd place Katie Hutson.
