Change of Guard at the Ashland Post: Familiar Face Returns as New Commander
ASHLAND – A welcome ceremony is underway at the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ashland Post as Lieutenant Brian J. Beal officially steps in as the new post commander — marking the next chapter in a career that has come full circle right here in Ashland County.
Lieutenant Beal, who previously served at the Ashland Post as a sergeant and assistant post commander, has returned to lead the agency’s dedicated team of troopers. His appointment follows the recent promotion of Lieutenant Bradley R. Bishop to staff lieutenant, now serving at the Bucyrus District Headquarters.
Ashland couldn’t ask for a more capable or familiar leader to continue the tradition of excellence upheld by Lt. Bishop. With strong professional ties to the Ashland community and a track record of service and achievement, Lt. Beal’s return is being celebrated by local law enforcement and residents alike.
Lt. Beal was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on November 16 and was recognized during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Training Academy in Columbus by Colonel Charles A. Jones, superintendent of the Patrol.
He began his Patrol career in September 2002 as a member of the 140th Academy Class and earned his commission the following year. Over the course of his service, he has contributed to several posts and units — including Toledo, Medina, and Cleveland District Investigations — building extensive experience across patrol operations, investigations, and leadership roles.
His accomplishments include:
Being named Post Trooper of the Year in 2009
Receiving the Superintendent’s Award of Excellence four times
Earning a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Baldwin-Wallace College
After being promoted to sergeant in 2021, Lt. Beal served at the Ashland Post before returning to Medina, and now — back to Ashland once again, this time to take command.
Lieutenant Bradley R. Bishop, whose leadership and dedication have helped shape the Ashland Post in recent years, was recently promoted to staff lieutenant and assigned to the Bucyrus District Headquarters. His advancement is widely applauded, and Ashland wishes him continued success in his new role.
As the Ashland Post transitions into this new leadership era, the community extends a warm welcome home to Lt. Beal.
“We couldn’t ask for anyone better to step into this position,” local leaders expressed. “Lieutenant Beal knows our community, knows our roads, and knows the heart of Ashland County.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol remains committed to its mission as an internationally accredited agency — delivering unbiased, professional public safety services guided by collaboration, inclusion, and ongoing innovation.
Welcome back, Lieutenant Beal — and congratulations on your well-earned promotion. Ashland is truly fortunate to have you.
