Deputies Arrest Suspect After Reported Shots Fired at Work Crew on U.S. Route 250 in Ashland County
ASHLAND COUNTY – A tense situation unfolded Friday when Ashland County Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and Sheriff Kurt J. Schneider responded to a report of shots fired at a residence along U.S. Route 250 North.
According to initial dispatch reports, a tree-trimming crew working at 563 U.S. Route 250 North reported being shot at by a male resident. The incident triggered an immediate response from law enforcement.
Deputies quickly secured the scene and initiated a standoff that lasted nearly 30 minutes. Law enforcement used a bullhorn and sirens in repeated attempts to communicate with the suspect, who eventually surrendered peacefully without further incident.
“We received a call for shots fired at this address, and when we arrived, we were able to detain an individual,” Sheriff Schneider said in a statement at the scene. “Our deputies did an outstanding job securing the perimeter and bringing the situation to a peaceful resolution. I’m especially thankful no one was hurt, including the tree-trimming crew and our deputies.”
Detectives on scene began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine the full scope of the incident. Later, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives continue their work. Charges are pending based on the findings of the investigation.
Sheriff Schneider also praised the swift cooperation of nearby residents. “The local community locked down quickly, helping to ensure the safety of others in the area,” he said.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
As with all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
