Fatal Crash Under Investigation on Gass Road Near State Route 97
TROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred late Monday night on Gass Road in Richland County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Mansfield Post, the crash happened on March 9, 2026, at approximately 10:14 p.m. on Gass Road between Lexington Ontario Road and State Route 97.
Preliminary information from troopers indicates a 2019 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound toward State Route 97 when the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle. The Mustang reportedly crossed the centerline, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck several trees.
After the impact, the vehicle came to rest along the roadside and became fully engulfed in flames.
The male driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Officials said the driver’s identity has not yet been released and remains under investigation.
During the investigation and emergency response, Gass Road was temporarily closed to traffic.
