Four Injured After SUV Crosses Median in Three-Vehicle Crash Monday Afternoon

ASHLAND COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 30 at County Road 1095 sent four people to the hospital Monday afternoon after an SUV crossed the median and collided with two vehicles, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.sent four people to the hospital Monday afternoon after an SUV unexpectedly crossed the median and collided with two eastbound vehicles, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers were called to the scene around 3:20 p.m. after a 2017 Ford Expedition, driven by 64-year-old Van Meade of Marion, veered left-of-center, crossed through the median, and entered the eastbound lanes.

The Expedition struck a 2023 Honda Ridgeline driven by 31-year-old Kayla Low of Mansfield. The impact pushed the Ridgeline into the path of an oncoming 2023 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck, resulting in secondary contact between the two vehicles. Investigators noted that the semi’s damage appeared to be from its collision with the Honda, not the SUV.

The Expedition continued off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.

Meade suffered serious head injuries and was transported by Mifflin EMS to Ohio-Health Mansfield Hospital. Troopers reported he was alert and speaking but could not be interviewed due to his condition.

Low and her two young children were also taken to Ohio-Health Mansfield with minor injuries. The semi driver, 61-year-old Dena Flanagan of Newcomerstown, was not injured.

Troopers say there is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol. Meade was cited for marked lanes.
