JURY RETURNS PARTIAL GUILTY VERDICT IN CHILD ABUSE CASE FOLLOWING SAVANNAH DOG ATTACK

Ashland, Ohio – Ashland County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher R. Tunnell announced today that a jury returned a partial guilty verdict in the case of Robert Michalski, Jr., following a four-day trial in the Ashland County Court of Common Pleas. The trial began on June 10, 2025, and concluded with a verdict on June 13, 2025, before the Honorable Judge David Stimpert. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Matthew Metcalf and Laura Stanley.

The jury found Michalski guilty of two counts of Complicity to Commit Endangering Children, both Felonies of the 3rd degree and Tampering with Evidence, a Felony of the 3rd degree.

He was found not guilty on four counts, which had included Kidnapping, additional Endangering Children charges, and Possessing Criminal Tools.

The charges stem from a disturbing pattern of abuse that culminated on August 17, 2024, in Savannah, Ohio. Two children – a young boy and his sister — were being periodically restrained using handcuffs and other devices in Michalski’s home. On August 17, 2024, while the boy was restrained, he was attacked by a dog, resulting in serious physical injuries.

Two co-defendants pleaded guilty to all counts in their respective indictments:

  • Angelina Williams, the children’s mother, entered her guilty plea on May 12, 2025, and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Taylor Marvin-Brown, Williams’ paramour, entered his guilty plea on April 21, 2025, and will be sentenced on
    July 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

Their convictions include charges of Kidnapping, multiple counts of Endangering Children, Obstructing Justice, and Possessing Criminal Tools.

The young boy has fully recovered from his physical injuries. He and his sister — also a victim, though not physically harmed – are now residing together in the care of a legal custodian, where they are receiving appropriate support and protection.

Prosecutor Tunnell praised Deputy Curtis Hall of the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office for breaking the case:

“Deputy Hall’s professionalism and compassion were critical to the outcome of this case. His investigative work and dedication to these children helped bring truth and justice to light.”

Tunnell also expressed appreciation for his trial team:

“I want to thank Assistant Prosecutors Matthew Metcalf and Laura Stanley for their outstanding work and dedication in presenting this difficult case.”

Robert Michalski, Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ashland County Court of Common Pleas. He faces a maximum potential sentence of nine years.
