Major Upgrades and Big Surprises Await at the 2025 Ashland County Fair
ASHLAND – The Ashland County Fairgrounds at 2042 Claremont Avenue is nearly unrecognizable this year, thanks to a wave of improvements and community partnerships that have transformed the grounds into one of the most polished and visitor-friendly county fairs in Ohio. Fair managers Cathy Rice and Barry Litten said they’ve been hard at work all summer preparing for the 2025 Ashland County Fair, which runs September 14–20, 2025.
Fresh Concrete, New Gardens, and More Comfort for Guests
From barns to walkways, the fairgrounds has seen a major facelift.
A new patio by the Rabbit Barn, designed and installed by Dirt Doctor, now offers a shaded garden area with benches for resting.
The swine washrack received a total rebuild after what began as a partial tear-out, while the dairy washrack was repaired on both ends. The sheep washrack was extended for more room to wash sheep. Moritz Materials, Harold Mercer, and M. Miller Construction teamed up to make the concrete projects both functional and beautiful.
Gardens on the Baney Road side of Buckeye and Byers Barn—complete with unique agricultural décor now greet passersby.
The open-class poultry barn and rabbit barn received new concrete in place of cracked surfaces and gravel.
Parking lots saw a massive upgrade with 615.4 tons of grindings spread and the handicap lot has been Chipped & Sealed by Sarver Paving with fresh striping by McB Paving. Additional handicap spaces are available at the Dog Pound lot.
The upgrades don’t stop there—mulched gardens, new siding Dairy and Goat Barns, and refreshed landscaping around barns ensure every corner of the fairgrounds feels welcoming.
Harness Racing and a First-Ever Wiener Dog Race
Harness racing returns Monday, September 15, with two sessions at noon and 6 p.m. at the track. This year, fairgoers will also be treated to an all-new attraction—the first-ever Wiener Dog Races, complete with a costume contest on the track stage. Sponsored by Directions Credit Union, this lighthearted addition promises laughs and plenty of tail-wagging excitement.
The Budweiser Clydesdales Make a Grand Entrance
Perhaps the most thrilling announcement of all: the Budweiser Clydesdales Full Hitch will be at the fair Sunday, September 14, from 3–5 p.m. Crowds can watch as the famous draft horses are harnessed in front of the Buckeye Barn, parade through the fairgrounds, and put on a breathtaking show at the Grandstand.
The Clydesdales’ stop also carries a charitable mission. The tour is raising money for Folds of Honor, which provides educational scholarships to the families of fallen or disabled service members. The Ashland County Fair will collect donations and present one large check to the Clydesdale team during their Sunday performance.
A Fair to Remember
With polished grounds, expanded accessibility, new entertainment, and the return of beloved traditions, Rice and Litten say this year’s fair will be one of the most memorable yet.
“We want families to come out, relax, enjoy the many scheduled event/shows, and make memories,” Rice said. “It’s about celebrating our community and making the fairgrounds better every year.”
