‘Make Ashland Sparkle’ community cleanup set for April 25
“Make Ashland Sparkle” has become an annual sign of spring with volunteers of all ages coming together to give local streets and parks a spring spruce-up on Saturday April 25.
The seventh annual community-wide clean-up and beautification day will have groups picking up litter along major streets, cleaning up and mulching at city and county parks. Opportunities for the youngest volunteers again include the “Kid Friendly Cleanup,” picking up sticks in Brookside and Cahn Grove parks. Volunteers can pick their tasks when they register at: AshlandRotary.net and click on the Sparkle sign-up link. You can also register the day of the event.
The Rotary Club of Ashland and the City of Ashland are sponsors of the event with numerous local businesses and organizations donating funds and food for breakfast and lunch.
“Make Ashland Sparkle has become a beloved yearly tradition,” said Rotarian Charlene Tolbert, chair of the project. “It’s great way to take pride in our shared spaces and give back to our beautiful community.”
Sparkle has grown to nearly 200 volunteers over the years, including groups from churches, businesses, civic organizations and scout groups along with families.
Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Corner Park downtown. The kickoff will be at 9 a.m., and volunteers will then head to their designated assignments. Lunch will be provided back at Corner Park from 11:45 a.m. until noon.
All cleaning supplies are provided along with a limited number of tools. Please consider bringing your own water bottle, work gloves, sunscreen and a hat. Questions can be directed to Tolbert at charlene.joy.tolbert@gmail.com.
