METRICH “Bridge Operation” Targets Drug Activity, Connects Individuals to Treatment Resources in Richland County

RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A coordinated law enforcement initiative aimed at disrupting drug activity while offering pathways to recovery was carried out across Richland County on April 1, 2026, according to officials.

The operation, known as the “Bridge Operation,” brought together the METRICH Enforcement Unit and several local and state agencies, including the Mansfield Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Also collaborating in the effort were the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office, Catalyst Life Services, Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services, and RecoveryOhio.

According to METRICH Lt. Steve Blust, the primary goal of the operation was to saturate targeted areas of Richland County with law enforcement presence in an effort to interdict criminal activity and enhance overall community safety. The initiative focused heavily on high-traffic stops in areas known for drug-related activity.

At the same time, officials emphasized a dual-purpose approach—ensuring that individuals encountered during the operation who may be struggling with substance use disorder were immediately connected with available treatment and recovery resources.

Blust described the operation as a success and praised the collaboration among participating agencies, noting that similar efforts were conducted across multiple jurisdictions within the METRICH region.

“The collaboration between the Richland County law enforcement agencies and the METRICH Enforcement Unit continues to have a positive impact,” Blust said, highlighting ongoing efforts to both remove illegal drugs from communities and provide help to those in need.

Authorities are encouraging the public to remain proactive in the fight against drug activity. Residents can report suspected drug-related activity by contacting the METRICH Crime Tip Hotline at 419-52-CRIME (419-522-7463), the Task Force line at 419-755-9728, or by using the METRICH mobile app.

Officials say continued community involvement remains a key component in addressing drug-related issues and improving public safety throughout the region.
