Morrow County Deputy Killed in Line of Duty on Memorial Day
MORROW COUNTY, Ohio — Deputy Daniel Weston Sherrer of the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty on the evening of Monday, May 26, 2025, while responding to a domestic situation.
Deputy Sherrer, 31, had served with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office since May 16, 2021. He is remembered as a dedicated public servant and is survived by his parents and numerous loved ones.
In a statement from Morrow County Sheriff John L. Hinton expressed deep sorrow at the loss.
“Our county is a closely-tied community which has always supported its law enforcement agencies, and that backing is evident during this time of grief,” Hinton said. “The many expressions of thoughts and prayers for the Sherrer family and our office are greatly appreciated.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced once finalized.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office has requested investigative assistance from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The case remains active and ongoing.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost also issued a statement on Tuesday, acknowledging the loss.
“My heart is torn by the loss of yet another Ohio law enforcement officer, who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting his community,” Yost said. “I share in the anguish experienced by so many in this tight-knit community – my prayers are with Deputy Sherrer’s family, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, and all who wear the badge.”
Yost also thanked the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for stepping in to lead the investigation during what he described as “a time of crushing grief.”

Deputy Sherrer is the latest Ohio law enforcement officer to be killed in the line of duty, a reminder of the risks faced by those who serve to protect their communities.
