PRESS RELEASE: Discount DrugMart’s Health Department Reinspection Slated for 9/12/25

Ashland, Ohio – The Ashland County Health Department (ACHD) reinspected Discount DrugMart on September 11, 2025 and deemed the cleanup acceptable for reopening, pending confirmation from pest control that the rodent infestation has been managed. If ACHD receives that confirmation on 9/12/25, Discount DrugMart will be allowed to reopen.

During the 9/11/25 inspection, ACHD Environmental Health Specialists confirmed the building is properly cleaned and secured to deter future rodent infestation, the contaminated items have been disposed of, and the remaining items were thoroughly disinfected.

The Ashland County Board of Health temporarily closed Discount DrugMart by emergency order on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 due to a severe rodent infestation. Emergency orders are issued when conditions create an imminent health hazard.

ACHD cleared the pharmacy drive thru to reopen September 10, 2025 after ACHD officials confirmed there was no evidence of rodents in the pharmacy area.

There was no evidence of rodent infestation at Millers (Hawkins) Market, which is located next to Discount DrugMart. Goodwill does not sell food and is not inspected by the ACHD, however, Environmental Health Specialists visited the store on September 10 and spoke with management. There were no visible signs of rodent infestation, nor were there any smells to indicate a rodent infestation.

ACHD Environmental Health Specialists have visited Discount DrugMart multiple times since the temporary closure to monitor rodent control and cleanup efforts.
