Prosecutor Tunnell Announces the Ashland County Officer of the Month

Ashland County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher R. Tunnell is pleased to announce the Officer of the Month for March, 2026, is Detective Gary Hannan of the Loudonville Police Department. Det. Hannan was nominated by Prosecutor Tunnell for his recent work in a sexual assault case occurring in the village of Loudonville.

Det. Hannan’s report is 61 pages long and he provided just shy of 70 files to the case file, including multiple text messages, screenshots, video, DNA results, search warrants, and supplemental reports. Det. Hannan’s investigation resulted in the filing of a juvenile complaint against the 17-year-old and an indictment against an adult for felony obstructing. Those cases are currently pending in the Ashland County Court of Common Pleas.

Tunnell stated, “Det. Hannan has historically been known for his bulldog-like determination in investigating cases, his thoroughness, and his willingness to collaborate with other agencies. His most recent investigation isn’t out of the ordinary, it’s just a prime example of the way Gary Hannan does business. Oh yeah, he does it all while working part-time.”

The officer of the month is awarded a police duck by the prosecuting attorney. The ducks are highly prized by local law enforcement and are only awarded for exceptional work on felony cases.
