Rain Can’t Stop the Candy: Ashland’s Trick-or-Treaters Brave the Weather for Halloween Fun

ASHLAND — Mother Nature may have brought the tricks this Halloween, but Ashland families proved they had plenty of spirit to spare! Despite the chilly rain, wind, and drizzle, hundreds of little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses hit the streets This evening for the city’s annual Trick-or-Treat Night.

Umbrellas and ponchos became the fashion trend of the night as families filled neighborhood sidewalks, candy bags in hand. From the sweetest “grandmas” to the spookiest monsters, and even a few pint-sized football players, police officers, and nurses, Ashland’s kids showed that a little bad weather couldn’t dampen their Halloween excitement.

Those handing out candy got creative too, many parked cars along the streets creating makeshift shelters from the rain. Laughter echoed through the neighborhoods as kids darted between cars and porches, determined to fill their sacks to the brim.

Even local first responders got in on the fun. Ashland County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Ashland Police Division Officers, and Ashland Fire Department crews handed out candy and waved to families braving the weather — proving that community spirit shines brightest, even under gray skies.

It’s a long-standing Ashland tradition to hold trick-or-treat on the Thursday before Halloween, a practice that keeps the celebration from conflicting with Friday night high school football and other weekend events. The early evening time slot also ensures families can enjoy the festivities safely before darkness falls.

As one drenched trick-or-treater put it with a grin: “The rain can’t stop the candy!”

So while Mother Nature may have offered more tricks than treats this year, Ashland once again showed what makes this community special — heart, humor, and hometown Halloween magic.
