Sheriff’s Office Tees Up Success at 9th Annual K-9 Golf Outing

ASHLAND, OH — On Saturday, August 16, the sun rose over Brookside Golf Course like a perfectly placed tee shot, and Ashland County deputies and friends were already busy setting the stage for the A&M Fire and Safety Equipment, Inc. 9th Annual K-9 Golf Outing.

By the time the 9 a.m. shotgun start rolled around, the temperature wasn’t the only thing heating up. The fairways were alive with laughter, banter, and good-natured trash talk that rolled off tongues faster than rubber off a burnout at Dragway 42. Some golfers came to raise money for the K-9 program, others came to win bragging rights, and plenty came to do both. Either way, the humor was laid out thicker than the rough on hole seven.

After all, golf is a game where you yell “fore,” shoot six, and write down five. Even President Gerald Ford once said, “I know I’m getting better at golf because I’m hitting fewer spectators.”

The event, a 4-Man Scramble, saw more teams than ever before, raising the stakes higher than a tee on a windy day. Rivalries flared, putts lipped out, and more than a few mulligans were “strategically deployed.”

But it wasn’t just the Sheriff’s Office swinging clubs this year—members of the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ashland Police Division Officers, Parole and Probation Officers, along with friends and family also joined forces on the fairways. Together, they proved that when it comes to protecting the community, law enforcement can also drive, chip, and putt for a cause.

Sheriff Kurt J. Schneider summed up the real purpose behind the fun:

“The Sheriff’s Office K-9 team has been a big success in the mission of the office, by taking dangerous drugs off the streets and apprehending criminals. They are successful because of their relentless dedication to the safety of Ashland County, and they could not do their jobs without the outpouring of support they receive from the players and sponsors of the golf outing.”

He added that funds raised directly support training and equipment, ensuring the dogs remain top-notch crime-fighters. “The K-9 team could not be successful without the community and individual support throughout the county, and we are deeply grateful for their ongoing involvement,” Schneider said.

Ashland County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Neff also shared gratitude:

“First off, I want to thank A&M Fire for hosting the 9th annual K-9 outing. We are grateful for their continuous support of the K-9 program. I’d like to thank all the golfers this year and all the local businesses that sponsored a hole. A special thank you to our golf ball sponsor, Aztec Soil, and our beer sponsors—Gibbs Towing, Friendly Express, Compass Insurance, Perrysville C Store, and Atlas Bolt. We couldn’t have done this without them.”

Neff also noted that the team is fully funded by donations, and with multiple K-9s nearing retirement, a new furry recruit will soon join the ranks.

The day wasn’t just about birdies and bogeys—it was about supporting the paws that protect. With every swing, slice, and sand trap escape, money was raised to keep Ashland County’s K-9 program strong.

As the last putts dropped and the final tall tales were swapped back at the clubhouse, one truth remained clear: in Ashland County, golf may be a “good walk spoiled,” but it’s also a great way to support a cause that’s well above par.

Fore the dogs, for the deputies, and for the community—this outing was a hole-in-one.
