Single-Vehicle Crash Sends Driver to Hospital with Serious Injuries on I-71
ASHLAND COUNTY, OH — Emergency crews responded early this morning to a serious single-vehicle crash on Interstate 71.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers were dispatched at 8:23 a.m. to the 183 mile marker on the southbound lanes of I-71 for a reported rollover crash. The Ashland Fire Department & EMS along with Aber’s Towing & Crane Service also responded to the scene.
Investigators said a 2025 Freightliner, owned by CTS Telecommunications, was being driven southbound by Michael Ziolkowski, 31, of New Waterford, Ohio, when the vehicle went off the right side of the interstate. The Freightliner traveled through a guardrail, went down a ravine, and rolled over, coming to rest on its side.
Ziolkowski sustained serious injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene by Ashland EMS before being transported to Ohio-Health Mansfield Hospital for further medical care.
Traffic was impacted while crews worked to secure the scene and remove the vehicle. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
