Strong Thunderstorms Swept Ashland and Surrounding Counties, Over 30,000 Without Power
ASHLAND, OH — Strong thunderstorms swept through Ashland and surrounding counties late Wednesday night, leaving widespread wind damage, downed trees, and more than 30,000 Ohio Edison customers without power as of Thursday morning.
According to Ohio Edison’s outage map, approximately 30,132 residents across north central and northeastern Ohio remain in the dark as utility crews begin work to assess and repair the damage.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Wednesday evening for Ashland, Wayne, Holmes, and eastern Knox counties. Residents across the region were urged to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of their homes due to radar-indicated winds with gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
The storm left behind a trail of destruction, including toppled trees, damaged power lines, and debris-littered roads. Reports of damage have come in from Wooster, Ashland, Millersburg, Loudonville, Savannah, West Salem, and other nearby communities.
Several readers submitted storm photos capturing fallen limbs, and scattered debris. Others were taken by me this morning as cleanup efforts began.
If you experienced storm damage, you’re encouraged to share your photos in the comment section to help document the storm’s impact across the region.
Utility crews are expected to work throughout the day and into the night to restore service and clear hazardous debris. Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and report any outages or safety hazards to Ohio Edison at outages-oh.firstenergycorp.com.
