The Swamp Comes Alive: Shrek Jr. Tonight at the Ashland Kroc Center

ASHLAND — The swamp is buzzing, the fairy-tale misfits are ready, and the curtain rises tonight at 7 p.m. as the Ashland Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center proudly presents Shrek Jr., a high-energy, heart-warming musical adventure for the whole family.

With only two performances left, audiences are invited to dive into the beloved world of ogres, donkeys, dragons, and unlikely heroes in this youth-theatre adaptation of the Broadway hit Shrek the Musical, inspired by the 2001 DreamWorks animated classic and William Steig’s original storybook.

Packed with laughs, catchy songs, and colorful characters, Shrek Jr. blends romance and twisted fairy-tale fun while delivering powerful themes of acceptance, self-worth, and finding love in unexpected places. It’s a story that reminds audiences of all ages that being different isn’t just okay—it’s something to celebrate.

Familiar Faces Return to the Stage

Adding to the excitement, the Kroc Center Youth Theatre welcomed back several familiar community leaders who previously appeared as the Salesmen in last year’s production of The Music Man. Their return has added extra heart and hometown pride to this magical journey, with special thanks extended to:

Sir Steve Paramore, Sir Ben Spieldenner, Sir Mike Cook, Sir Tony Shambaugh, Sir Dennis Miller, Sir Dan Lawson, Sir Cristian Perrin, and Papa Ogre Billy Francis.

Community Support Makes the Magic Possible

Behind the scenes, an army of generous sponsors helped bring the swamp to life—songs, laughs, layers, and all. From Elizabeth the Dragon to Fiona’s Tower, local businesses, organizations, and families rallied behind youth theatre and made this production truly unforgettable.

Their support, organizers say, proves that Ashland believes deeply in the power of the arts—and in giving young performers a stage to shine.

A Fairytale Bonus: Lord Farquaad’s Royal Raffle

Before the curtain rises, theatergoers are also invited to take part in Lord Farquaad’s Raffle, featuring prizes fit for royalty—including:
