Trooper Josiah Custer Named 2025 Trooper of the Year at OSHP Wooster Post
WOOSTER — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced that Trooper Josiah D. Custer has been selected as the 2025 Trooper of the Year for the Wooster Post, an honor recognizing his exemplary service, leadership, and professionalism throughout the year.
Trooper Custer, 30, was chosen by his fellow officers based on his strong leadership abilities, unwavering professional ethics, courteous treatment of the public, positive work attitude, and outstanding cooperation with supervisors and peers. The peer-selected award highlights those who consistently embody the Patrol’s core values both on and off the road.
With this honor, Custer now moves forward as a contender for the District and State Trooper of the Year awards, which will be announced at a later date.
Trooper Custer began his career with the Highway Patrol in 2016 and has been assigned to the Wooster Post since graduating from the academy. Originally from Ashland, he is a graduate of Temple Christian School in Mansfield.
Over the course of his career, Custer has earned numerous distinctions, including the ACE Award, Criminal Patrol Award, Safe Driving Award, and Physical Fitness Award. In 2024, he also received the Patrol’s prestigious Master Trooper designation and currently serves as a field training officer.
This marks the second time Trooper Custer has been selected as Trooper of the Year at the Wooster Post.
Trooper Custer and his wife, Cassidy, reside in Ashland with their three children: Brady, 7; Daxx, 6; and Nash, 4.
