Two Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on US 6 in Vermilion Township

VERMILION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two Vermilion residents were killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 6 in Erie County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Sandusky Post were dispatched at approximately 2:07 a.m. on February 27, 2026, to a crash on US 6 near mile marker 25 in Vermilion Township.

Investigators said Rickey Morgan, 49, of Vermilion, was driving a 2008 Honda Accord westbound on US 6 when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway. Morgan reportedly overcorrected, re-entered the roadway, then lost control again and drove off the right side a second time.

The vehicle struck two signs before colliding with a tree, where it came to rest.

Morgan and his front-seat passenger, Robert Senn Jr., 65, also of Vermilion, were not wearing seat belts and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Troopers were assisted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Vermilion Township Fire Department, Vermilion Police Department, LifeCare EMS, Riddle Funeral Home, and Interstate Towing.

U.S. Route 6 was closed for approximately two hours while crews worked at the scene. The roadway has since reopened.

Authorities indicated that alcohol is considered a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
