Unresponsive Man Found Dead in Mifflin; Investigation Ongoing
MIFFLIN, Ohio — The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 26-year-old man who was found unresponsive Wednesday evening at a residence in Mifflin.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 5:04 p.m. on Feb. 19 to a home at 39 Maine Street following a report of an unresponsive person. Responding agencies included the Mifflin Township Fire Department, Mifflin Village Police Department, and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders located Brandon Sheaffer, 26, lying on the floor unconscious and unresponsive. Life-saving measures were initiated, but Sheaffer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The sheriff’s office reported that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sheaffer’s death remains ongoing. Investigators are being assisted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, Mifflin Village Police, and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.
As of Thursday, the coroner’s office has not determined an official cause of death. Detectives continue to interview witnesses and examine evidence collected from the scene.
Authorities emphasized there are no immediate safety concerns for Ashland County residents at this time.
