Winter Weather Impacts Ashland Holiday Events; Safety Remains Top Priority Across Community
ASHLAND — A powerful winter snowstorm continued to affect holiday activities across Ashland this evening, prompting multiple organizations to adjust or cancel events as road and walking conditions deteriorated.
The Ashland Christmas Village announced a weather-related closure after volunteers held out as long as possible in hopes of keeping the evening’s festivities going. With snow falling heavily and conditions becoming unsafe for families, guests, and volunteers, organizers made the difficult decision to cancel the event.
Despite the closure, the Christmas spirit remains strong. The Ashland Christmas Village will welcome visitors back on December 19 and December 20, when organizers plan to resume the festivities under safer conditions.
Meanwhile, the Ashland County Fairgrounds also canceled tonight’s Holiday Lights & Delights drive-through display, citing slippery and dangerous roads. With nearby counties moving toward Level 2 snow emergencies, officials said safety concerns made the cancellation necessary. Fair officials encouraged residents to monitor their Facebook page for weather-related updates and thanked the public for helping share the information.

At the same time, the Ashland County Park District announced it would continue limited activities despite the storm, while urging caution. Crews worked throughout the day to keep the Candy Cane Trail and parking areas cleared, but officials warned that continued snowfall could make walking surfaces slippery. Visitors who chose to attend were asked to use caution and dress appropriately for winter conditions.

The Park District confirmed that Santa would still be visiting in the Community Room, and hot chocolate provided by Downtown Perk would be available from 5 to 8 p.m. However, officials noted that worsening weather or low attendance could require activities to end earlier than planned.
Across all announcements, organizers shared a consistent message: safety comes first. Residents are encouraged to stay warm, travel carefully, and continue watching official social media pages for the latest updates as Ashland’s holiday season adapts to winter’s arrival.
