$5,000 Bond Set for Galloway Man Facing Cocaine and Firearms Charges

ASHLAND, Ohio — A Galloway man accused of possessing cocaine and a loaded handgun during an incident at Mohican Adventures appeared by video Wednesday, October 21, for a bond hearing in Ashland County Common Pleas Court.

Magistrate Emily M. Bates set bond at $5,000 for Brandon Young, 43, with a 10% cash deposit option, allowing him to post $500 toward release. The order also permits a $5,000 surety bond or other authorized security. His arraignment is scheduled for November 2 at 11 a.m.

Young appeared without an attorney and told the court he intended to retain counsel. Bates advised him of his rights, including the right to remain silent, a jury trial and court-appointed counsel if he could not afford an attorney, according to the magistrate’s order.

The case stems from an alleged June 27 incident in Ashland County. An indictment filed September 10 charges Young with:

– Possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.

– Improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony.

– Carrying concealed weapons, a fourth-degree felony.

– Having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.

The indictment identifies the alleged cocaine quantity as 1.13 grams. It also includes a firearm specification attached to the cocaine charge and forfeiture specifications involving a 9mm handgun attached to the two weapons counts.

According to a written bond recommendation submitted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Laura Stanley, Loudonville police were notified that a man was passed out in a vehicle in the Mohican Adventures parking lot, with his foot on the accelerator and the engine revving.

The filing states officers contacted Young and arrested him for physical control following field tests. While looking for the vehicle’s key fob, officers allegedly found a gun with a full magazine, white powder and a rolled dollar bill.

A subsequent vehicle search allegedly uncovered a cigarette pack containing a glass pipe on the center console. Prosecutors said Young identified the powder as cocaine and that testing with an MX908 device returned a positive result for cocaine. These details are allegations outlined in the prosecution’s filing.

Under the bond order, Young must remain in Ohio unless he receives written permission from the court, attend all future hearings and keep his contact information current.

He is prohibited from using, consuming or possessing alcohol or drugs of abuse, including any product containing THC, and must submit to random testing at his own expense.

The court also ordered Young to obtain a drug and alcohol assessment and follow treatment recommendations. Within 14 days of posting bond, he must provide verification that he has scheduled the assessment. Upon release, he must immediately report to the court’s bailiffs to enroll in the drug testing and bond program.

The November 2 arraignment is scheduled by video. If Young posts bond, the order directs him to appear at the courthouse at 142 W. Second St. in Ashland for that hearing.

Young is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
