Ashland County Agencies Stand Together for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

ASHLAND — Local law enforcement, prosecutors and victim advocates stood together for an annual photo opportunity organized by Safe Haven, a program of Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Representatives from the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office, Ashland City Law Director’s Office, Loudonville Law Director’s Office, Loudonville Police Department, Ashland Police Division, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Safe Haven participated in the show of solidarity.

Observed each October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month raises awareness of domestic violence and highlights resources available to victims and their families. The annual gathering brings local partners together in support of those affected.

Safe Haven’s October calendar includes opportunities to remember lives lost, honor survivors and encourage community involvement.

A Candlelight Vigil will take place October 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Ashland Corner Park. The gathering will remember people who lost their lives to domestic violence, honor survivors and support those still impacted.

On October 14, residents are encouraged to participate in Domestic Violence Awareness Day by wearing purple and sharing photos using #DVAM and #WearPurpleDay.

Also on October 14, Safe Haven will host Speak Out from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Freer Field Visitor Center, Room 1301. The event offers survivors a supportive setting to share their stories, reclaim their strength and find healing through connection.

Two memorial projects will continue throughout October.

The Silent Witness Project, displayed at various locations, honors the 10 individuals who lost their lives to domestic violence in Ashland County.

The Empty Chair Project, located at Appleseed Community Mental Health Center, is a companion memorial representing lives forever changed and lost to domestic violence while inspiring awareness and hope.

Together, the annual photo opportunity, memorial displays and community events draw attention to the impact of domestic violence and the support available to victims and their families.
