Driver Cited After Car and E-Bike Collide at East Main and Union Streets

ASHLAND — A 49-year-old driver was cited following a collision involving a car and an e-bike at the intersection of East Main Street and Union Street on Wednesday, September 30. No injuries were reported.

The Ashland Police Division and Ashland Fire Department & EMS responded to the incident, which was reported at approximately 4:44 p.m.

According to police, Deborah Walker, 49, was driving a 2007 Pontiac G6 southbound on Union Street and attempting to turn right onto East Main Street to travel west. At the same time, Michael Grim, 19, was entering the crosswalk on an e-bike.

Police said Walker had a green traffic light, while the crosswalk displayed a walk signal. The car and e-bike collided as Walker turned and Grim proceeded through the crosswalk.

The investigating officer said Walker failed to ensure the crosswalk was clear before making the turn.

According to police, Walker initially did not realize a collision had occurred. A passenger alerted her, and Grim reportedly banged on the car’s door. Walker then stopped, got out and checked on him.

Grim told Walker he was not injured and indicated that he could repair the e-bike’s bent handlebars himself. Police said Walker gave him a hug before leaving, but did not provide the information required following a traffic crash.

The officer emphasized that Walker stopped and spoke with Grim before departing. The leaving-the-scene citation stemmed from her failure to provide the required information.

Walker was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and making an improper turn.

Grim continued to report that he was uninjured, according to police.
