I-71 Speed Enforcement Nets 28 Tickets in About an Hour
ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office in yesterday morning speed enforcement operation on Interstate 71 resulted in 28 citations in approximately one hour, with reported speeds ranging from 86 to 95 mph, according to information provided to Ashland County Pictures by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The operation is part of an ongoing enforcement presence along I-71 in Ashland County, where troopers regularly monitor traffic and use aircraft to assist with speed enforcement.
“Twenty-eight tickets. Ninety-five was the fastest, and eighty-six was the lowest,” a OSHP Trooper said during an interview with ACP News.
The OSHP Trooper said aircraft-assisted enforcement occurs at least once a month. Troopers also frequently position themselves at the median crossover just north of the U.S. 250 interchange.
“We’re always out on the interstate,” the Trooper said.
Published Data Shows I-71 Leads Ashland County’s Crash Routes
The state’s 2025 Ashland County Traffic Crashes report, which directs readers to the Patrol’s Ohio Statistics and Analytics for Traffic Safety dashboard, provides additional context for the local interstate.
The report lists 177 crashes on I-71 in Ashland County during 2025, compared with 145 in 2024 and 151 in 2023. I-71 ranked first among the county’s three leading crash routes listed in the report, ahead of State Route 60 and U.S. 250.
The report also recorded 229 speed-related crashes throughout Ashland County in 2025, up from 172 in 2024 and 158 in 2023. Those totals include all roads in the county and should not be interpreted as I-71-only statistics.
For now, the recent operation documents the speeds officers continue to encounter on I-71: 28 citations in approximately an hour, with the lowest reported speed among those cited at 86 mph.
