North Ridgeville Man Killed in Ohio Turnpike Crash

OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A North Ridgeville man was killed Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle struck a guardrail and bridge column on the Ohio Turnpike in Cuyahoga County.

The crash occurred at approximately 4 p.m. Sept. 9 in Olmsted Township, according to the Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2009 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 31-year-old Justin Barker, was traveling eastbound when it went off the right side of the roadway. The Cadillac struck a guardrail and bridge column before rotating back onto the turnpike.

The Cadillac then struck a 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by Courtney Telep, 37, of Berea.

Barker was pronounced dead at the scene. Telep was not injured, troopers reported.

The right lane of the Ohio Turnpike remained closed for approximately three hours while emergency crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Olmsted Township Fire Department, Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission and Rich’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
