Patrol Releases Names in U.S. 30 Road Rage Shooting; Columbus Man Charged With Felonious Assault
ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the names of the drivers involved in Thursday morning’s reported road rage shooting on U.S. Route 30. A Columbus man now faces a second-degree felony charge, with a bond hearing scheduled for Monday.
Frank Andrew King II, 34, of Columbus, is charged with one count of felonious assault in Ashland County Common Pleas Court following the October 1 incident in Vermillion Township.
King’s bond hearing is scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. before Magistrate Paul T. Lange via Zoom video.
According to the Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. on eastbound U.S. 30 near State Route 60.
John S. Nervo Jr., 53, of Canton, was driving a 1992 Peterbilt semi-truck in the left lane, while King was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima in the right lane. Troopers said the drivers became involved in an altercation that included both making hand gestures toward one another.
The Patrol alleges King then brandished a 9mm firearm and fired one round at the semi-truck, striking its passenger-side door. Following the shooting, the vehicles separated without further contact.
Troopers from the Ashland and Wooster posts responded and located the Nissan Altima still traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 in Wooster. They conducted a traffic stop and took King into custody without incident.
Neither driver nor any officer was injured, according to the Patrol. King was taken to the Ashland County Jail.
A criminal complaint filed October 2 in case 26-CRI-174 alleges King knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to John Steve Nervo Jr. with a Taurus GC2 9mm handgun.
The complaint charges King with felonious assault under Ohio Revised Code Section 2903.11(A)(2), classified in the filing as a second-degree felony.
Although the Patrol’s release listed charges as pending, the subsequent court filing documents the felonious assault charge.
The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Patrol during the response.
The charge is an allegation, and King is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
