Representative Melanie Miller Supports 90 Day Gas Tax Holiday for Ohioans

COLUMBUS—State Representative Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) today voted in support of a legislative effort that will temporarily suspend Ohio’s State Gas Tax for 90 days, providing real relief to Ohioans as fuel costs continue to rise.
Sub. House Bill 519 would go into effect in October, providing Ohioans with $725 million in relief leading into the holiday season. Importantly, these savings will be achieved while providing uninterrupted access to funds for state and local road maintenance and construction.
“Ohioans are feeling the pinch every time they fill up their tank, and I believe they deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money,” said Rep. Melanie Miller. “This 90-day gas tax holiday provides direct, immediate relief at the pump while ensuring our roads and infrastructure continue to receive the funding they need. It also provides timely relief to Ohio’s number one industry—agriculture—as our farmers are working through the fall harvest season.
Three states have already taken action this year to provide gas-tax relief to their residents, and I’m proud that Ohio is taking action to deliver savings that Ohio families, workers, businesses and farmers can actually see.”
This initiative is part of the Ohio House Republicans’ broader efforts to lower the cost of everyday life for Ohioans. House Republicans have championed several pieces of legislation aimed at providing savings you can see since the beginning of the General Assembly, including cutting state income taxes with a new flat rate, passing a slate of bills to provide more than $4 billion in property tax relief over the next three years, expanding access to publicly funded childcare and preschool, and renewing the expanded summer sales tax holiday.
Sub. House Bill 519 now heads to Governor Mike DeWine for his signature.
