American Legion Post 88 to Hold Veterans Day Service Nov. 11 in Ashland
ASHLAND, Ohio — American Legion Harry Higgins Post 88 will hold its Veterans Day service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the American Legion Hall on Claremont Avenue, across from Chase Bank.
The ceremony will honor veterans of all wars, remember those who gave their lives in service and recognize those serving in the U.S. armed forces today. The post will also recognize veterans who continue to serve their communities through veterans’ organizations.
Post 88 Commander David Abbruzzese will welcome attendees and deliver the Veterans Day address. Post Chaplain Don Earlenbaugh will give the invocation and benediction. Attendees will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and Jane Roland will sing the national anthem.
The outdoor portion of the service will take place on the hall’s front lawn and will include a firing squad from the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard and the playing of “Taps.” The American Legion Auxiliary will prepare and serve food.
The program’s theme, “11th Hour, 11th Day, 11th Month,” recalls the World War I armistice that took effect at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918. Congress made Armistice Day a federal holiday in 1938 and renamed it Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American veterans of all wars.
