Ashland Man Faces Felony Assault Charge After Cleveland Avenue Search Warrant

ASHLAND, Ohio — An Ashland man faces a fourth-degree felony assault charge stemming from a Nov. 3 incident at a Cleveland Avenue home where Ashland police served a search warrant.

Matthew Cogar, 41, was charged Nov. 5 in Ashland County Common Pleas Court. The complaint, signed by Ashland Police Detective Leah Zeisler, alleges Cogar knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to Zeisler while she was performing her official duties. The case number is 26-CRI-196.

Dispatch records show officers took positions at the front and rear of the home at 655 Cleveland Ave. shortly before 2 p.m. An officer reported one person in custody at about 2:02 p.m. At about 2:11 p.m., an officer requested EMS and reported that a Taser had been deployed.

The redacted Ashland Police Division incident report says officers executed a search at the home and arrested a man at the scene. The report lists multiple items collected during the search. The report lists the investigation as pending.
