Ashland Man Injured in U.S. Route 30 Collision With Semi
MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 73-year-old Ashland man sustained non-life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon when his pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 30 near State Route 603.
The crash was reported at approximately 1:05 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 30. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mifflin Township Fire Department and Mifflin EMS from Richland County responded to the scene.
According to troopers, Daniel Sullivan, 73, of Ashland, was driving a blue 2022 GMC Sierra westbound on U.S. Route 30. Sullivan entered the median crossover, commonly referred to as a J-turn, and attempted to turn around and enter the eastbound lanes.
Troopers said Sullivan failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of a white 2016 Freightliner driven by Kurt Kolp, 45, of Wooster.
The tractor-trailer struck Sullivan’s pickup, knocking it into the median. The semi then went off the left side of the highway, struck a guardrail and also entered the median.
Sullivan received non-life-threatening injuries was transported to a Ohio-Health for treatment.
Kolp was not injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Sullivan will be cited for failure to yield the right of way.
The crash remains under investigation.
