Ashland Police Fishing Derby Expands Into Action-Packed R.O.C.K. Community Event
ASHLAND, Ohio — The Ashland Police Division is casting a much wider net for family fun this fall as its annual Police Fishing Derby returns with games, inflatables, prizes, food and opportunities for children to spend time with local officers.
This year’s free event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2347 Cottage Street in Ashland. Activities are scheduled to take place rain or shine.
Organizers are “pulling out all the stops” by combining the traditional fishing derby with a R.O.C.K. event. R.O.C.K., which stands for Reach Out Cops and Kids, is designed to strengthen relationships between young people and law enforcement while recognizing children who make a positive difference in the community.
Young anglers can bring their fishing rods and try their luck at the pond, but no one has to fish to join the excitement. Families can also enjoy giant inflatables, games, prizes and other activities throughout the afternoon. A food truck will be on-site with food available for purchase.
Children and teenagers through age 17 are invited to participate.
The celebration will also give area families an opportunity to meet members of the Ashland Police Division in a relaxed and welcoming environment built around laughter, outdoor recreation and community spirit.
The Police Fishing Derby is presented by the Ashland Police Recreation Club in partnership with the Ashland County Juvenile Court, with support from DYS grant funding.
