I-270 Enforcement Blitz Nets 566 Speed Citations,21 faster than 100 mph, 12 Impaired-Driving Arrests
COLUMBUS, OH — A weeklong multi-agency enforcement operation targeting reckless driving along Interstate 270 resulted in hundreds of traffic citations and a dozen impaired-driving arrests, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The operation was conducted Aug. 17-22 in areas of I-270 identified as having some of the highest crash rates. The effort focused on preventing dangerous driving and reducing fatal crashes along the heavily traveled Columbus-area interstate.
Troopers issued 566 speeding citations during the enforcement period, including 21 to motorists accused of traveling faster than 100 mph.
Participating law enforcement agencies also issued 103 distracted-driving citations and 90 safety-belt citations. Twelve motorists were arrested on impaired-driving allegations.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was joined by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Dublin Police Department, Gahanna Police Department, Hilliard Police Department, Columbus Division of Police and Ohio Department of Transportation.
