Loudonville Police Assist in River Rescue, Make OVI Arrest During Busy Week
LOUDONVILLE, Ohio — Loudonville Police assisted with a high-water river rescue, investigated several suspicious-person and vehicle complaints, and made an impaired-driving arrest during the week of Aug. 16 through Aug. 22.
One of the week’s most significant calls occurred at approximately 2:54 p.m. Aug. 17, when officers responded to the 3000 block of County Road 3175 to assist the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office after several people reportedly fell into the river during high-water conditions.
Police said the individuals were helped onto the riverbank. Following a brief search, three people who had been reported missing were also located.
Earlier that day, at approximately 2:01 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of State Route 3. An 18-year-old Mount Gilead man was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, underage possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, failure to use a turn signal and failure to illuminate a rear license plate.
At approximately 8:54 a.m. Aug. 17, Loudonville Police assisted the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio State Highway Patrol with a reported domestic disturbance at Mohican State Park. An ODNR officer arrested one person, who was transported to the Ashland County Jail.
Police assisted another neighboring agency at approximately 12:43 a.m. Aug. 22, responding to the Mohican Reservations Campground for a report of an intoxicated person driving through the campground and allegedly attempting to strike pedestrians. Officers located and detained the individual until Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and assumed the investigation.
Later that day, officers responded to a report of a reckless driver operating a vehicle on the bike path in the 900 block of South Market Street. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. A 25-year-old Ashland man was cited for driving under a noncompliance suspension. Police reported that he showed no signs of impairment.
Other calls during the week included:
A fraudulent credit card transaction and a separate fraud complaint.
A low-hanging electrical line on North Spring Street that was removed by Ohio Edison.
A fuel drive-off on North Union Street. Police used surveillance footage to identify the vehicle, and the individual later returned to pay.
Several reports of unauthorized door-to-door soliciting. Multiple individuals were located and warned.
A harassment complaint in which an individual was notified of trespass and cease-communication notices.
An unlocked business discovered during an early-morning security check on West Main Street. Officers checked and secured the building.
A warrant arrest by Ashland County Sheriff’s Deputies following a suspicious-person complaint on Township Highway 629.
Several suspicious vehicles found at closed businesses or public facilities after hours. The occupants were warned and instructed to leave.
Loudonville Police also assisted the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office with a reported juvenile disturbance at the Spellacy Covered Bridge on Aug. 22. Officers located the juveniles and their parents and determined that everything was okay.
During the reporting period, officers conducted 53 business checks and 21 traffic stops that resulted in warnings.
