Mansfield Man Identified in Clear Fork River Death Investigation
BELLVILLE, OH — Authorities have identified the man whose body was discovered Tuesday morning in the Clear Fork of the Mohican River near Gatton Rocks.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Jeffery A. Rapp, 66, of Mansfield.
According to a joint news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 11:24 a.m. Tuesday reporting an unresponsive person lying facedown in the river near the intersection of Gatton Rocks Road and Cutnaw Road in Jefferson Township.
Deputies responded and confirmed that the individual was deceased. The Richland County Coroner’s Office, Butler Police Department and Jefferson Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation also assisted authorities with processing the scene.
The circumstances surrounding Rapp’s death remain under investigation. His cause of death has not been determined, and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
