Mifflin Fire Department to Host Move Over Awareness Event and Fundraiser Oct. 17

MIFFLIN — The Mifflin Community Volunteer Fire Department is inviting the community to come together for a message that could save lives: slow down and move over.

The department, along with Auer Towing & Recovery and Safety First Driving Academy, will host a Move Over Law Awareness Event and Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the new volunteer fire station, 16 Maine St. in the Village of Mifflin.

The event will bring residents, first responders and roadway workers together to raise awareness of roadside safety, honor those who work along roadways and support the nationwide nonprofit American Traffic Safety Services Foundation, known as the ATSS Foundation.

With the theme “Let First Responders Live,” organizers are emphasizing the importance of protecting people working near traffic, including police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, towing operators and road crews.

Proceeds will benefit the ATSS Foundation. The foundation honors fallen roadway workers, provides scholarships and offers educational tools to help prevent future tragedies.

The gathering offers an opportunity for the community to show its support for the people who respond to emergencies and keep roadways operating safely.

The message captures the purpose of the day: “Together We Make Roads Safer.”
