Mount Gilead Motorcyclist Killed in Morrow County Crash
MOUNT GILEAD — A 70-year-old Mount Gilead man was killed Wednesday night after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. Route 42 and being struck by an approaching vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:04 p.m. July 29 near County Road 110 in Congress Township, Morrow County.
According to the Mount Gilead Post, Darell Boestler was traveling north on U.S. 42 aboard a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he went off the right side of the roadway and laid the motorcycle down.
The motorcycle came to rest partially off the west side of the highway, while Boestler came to rest in the roadway. He was then struck by a southbound 2019 Lexus NX300 driven by Roxann Maynard, 54, of Mansfield.
Boestler was pronounced dead at the scene by Morrow County EMS. Troopers reported that he was not wearing a helmet.
Maynard was wearing a seat belt and was not impaired, according to the Highway Patrol. Investigators said it remains unknown whether alcohol or drug impairment was a factor for Boestler.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS and Morrow County Coroner assisted the Highway Patrol at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post.
