Semi Hauling 42,000 Pounds of Pizza Dough Catches Fire on I-71
ASHLAND COUNTY — A semi hauling approximately 42,000 pounds of pizza dough caught fire on Interstate 71 southbound near mile marker 180.6 Saturday evening, bringing traffic to a standstill.
Heavy flames and thick black smoke rose from the trailer, which sustained extensive damage. Initial reports indicated a possible tire fire, but the cause has not been confirmed.
Mifflin Township Fire Department & EMS, Ashland Fire Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded.
At the time of the latest scene report, two southbound lanes were closed, with only the left lane open. Motorists approaching the area should expect delays.
