Two Fremont Residents Killed in Seneca County Motorcycle Crash
NORWALK, Ohio — Two Fremont residents were killed Friday afternoon when their three-wheeled motorcycle collided with a car at an intersection in Seneca County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the intersection of State Route 18 and County Road 26 in Hopewell Township.
According to the Patrol’s preliminary investigation, a 2015 Ford Taurus driven by Hadiya Batts, 29, of Tiffin, was traveling west on County Road 26. Investigators said Batts failed to yield at the posted stop sign at State Route 18.
The Taurus was then struck by a northwestbound 2015 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler operated by Ronald Kuyken, 74, of Fremont.
Ronald Kuyken suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Susan Kuyken, 65, also of Fremont, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Health–Tiffin Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Patrol reported that neither Ronald nor Susan Kuyken was wearing a helmet. Batts, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene.
The intersection and surrounding roadways were closed for approximately two hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators documented the crash.
The Norwalk Post was assisted by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Bascom Fire Department, Tiffin EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, the Seneca County Coroner’s Office, Seneca County Department of Transportation, Ohio Department of Transportation and John’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
