Willard Man Dies After Crash at Huron County Intersection
NEW HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 74-year-old Willard man died Sunday, four days after his pickup truck collided with a semi at the intersection of State Routes 103 and 61, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. A preliminary investigation by the patrol’s Norwalk Post found that Edwin Lynch was driving a 2018 Toyota Tundra east on State Route 103 when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign at State Route 61. His pickup struck a northbound 2025 Mack Pinnacle semi driven by Eric Smith, 35, of Mansfield.
Lynch suffered serious injuries and was flown to Cleveland Metro Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sept. 20. Smith was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
The intersection was closed for approximately one hour during the investigation. The Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Willard Fire Department, North Central EMS, Cleveland Metro Life Flight and White’s Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
