Court Sets $3,000 Bond for Ashland Man Accused of Turning Meth Pipe Over to Police
ASHLAND, Ohio — A $3,000 bond has been set for an Ashland man accused of bringing a methamphetamine pipe to police approximately three hours after allegedly using it.
Jose Gonzalez, 40, is charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
During a video hearing Monday, Aug. 17, Ashland County Common Pleas Court Magistrate Emily M. Bates set a $3,000 bond with a 10% cash-deposit option.
Assistant Ashland County Prosecutor Laura Stanley had recommended a $5,000 bond.
If released, Gonzalez must remain in Ohio, avoid alcohol, drugs and THC products, submit to random testing and obtain a drug and alcohol assessment. He must also enroll in the court’s drug-testing and bond program.
The court found Gonzalez unable to afford an attorney and appointed Gregory Tarkowsky to represent him.
According to prosecutors, Gonzalez went to the Ashland Police Department on Aug. 13 and surrendered a pipe he allegedly said he had used to smoke methamphetamine approximately three hours earlier. Police said the pipe tested positive for methamphetamine.
Gonzalez’s next hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The charge is an allegation. Gonzalez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
