Ashland Color Fun Walk/Run Celebrates Foster Families, 10 Years of Ministry
ASHLAND, Ohio — Get ready for color, laughter, family fun, and a powerful purpose.
In honor of Foster Care Appreciation Month and 10 years of ministry, Fostering Family Ministries is inviting the community to Freer Field on Saturday, May 16, for the 6th Annual Color Fun 1 Mile Walk and 5K Fun Run.
The event will be held at Freer Field, 1264 Center Street in Ashland, with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. A group Color Throw Photo and Recognition will take place at 9:15 a.m., followed by the start of the walk and run at 9:30 a.m.
This is not just another walk or run. It is a colorful celebration of children, families, foster parents, kinship caregivers, churches, and communities who continue stepping up for vulnerable children across North Central Ohio.
Participants can choose between a 1-mile walk or a 5K fun run, with colorful powder stations along the route. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, making the event accessible for families of all ages and abilities.
Those who raise $25 in donations will receive an FFM Color Fun T-shirt, perfect for showing off the bright colors tossed along the course.
The day will also include plenty of family-friendly activities, including bounce houses, face painting, bubbles, and more.
Fostering Family Ministries said the event is designed to bring the community together while raising support for the organization’s mission of serving vulnerable children and families in foster care.
This year’s celebration carries extra meaning as the ministry marks a decade of service. Over the past 10 years, FFM has seen what it describes as an incredible increase in supported foster families, helping communities better keep pace with the needs of children in foster care.
Through partnerships with churches and communities, Fostering Family Ministries now reaches families across Ashland, Richland, Knox, Medina, Huron, Wayne, and additional counties.
The ministry says churches and communities are continuing to step forward to provide support to foster and kinship families at a time when that support remains critical.
This year, donations will go even further. A generous donor has provided a matching challenge of up to $40,000, meaning every dollar donated can be doubled if the goal is met.
Community members are encouraged to participate, donate, or sponsor the event.
The message behind the day is simple but powerful: Go an extra mile for a child.
“Color powder is optional for those who do not want it.”
