West Salem Man Dies Following Two-Vehicle Crash in Huron County
BRONSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A West Salem man has died following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Huron County.
According to the Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:28 p.m. July 10 at the intersection of New State Road and Dublin Road in Bronson Township.
Troopers said a Chevrolet Impala driven by Scott A. Wilkes, 53, of West Salem, was traveling east on Dublin Road when he failed to yield at a posted stop sign at New State Road.
The Impala was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Silverado HD driven by Kyle E. Smialowski, 45, of Norwalk.
Following the collision, the Impala traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection, while the Silverado went off the southeast corner.
Wilkes was transported by ambulance to Fisher-Titus Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Smialowski suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Norwalk Fire Department, North Central EMS, Wilcox Towing and Interstate Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Norwalk Post.
