Ashland County Cancer Association Rummage Sale Opens Tomorrow at Fairgrounds

ASHLAND — The Ashland County Cancer Association’s 12th annual Rummage Sale opens Wednesday, June 3, at the Ashland County Fairgrounds, offering thousands of bargains while raising money to support local cancer patients and their families.

The sale will be held in three buildings at the fairgrounds, located at 2042 Claremont Ave. in Ashland. Hours are Wednesday, June 3, from 2 to 8 p.m.; Thursday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Angela Woodward, director of the Ashland County Cancer Association, said this year’s sale has grown so large that the organization had to expand into additional building space.

“This is our 12th annual rummage sale,” Woodward said. “We are now in three buildings, the Hobby Building, the Green Merchants Building and the Gold Merchants Building, because the community has been so generous with over 800 donations this year.”

Shoppers will find a wide variety of items, including clothing, shoes, furniture, home décor, household goods, books, games, toys, electronics, appliances, jewelry, purses and more. Woodward said the sale includes brand-new televisions, a refrigerator, couches and an entire building filled with toys.

The Green Merchants Building will feature many softer items, including clothes, shoes, bath items and holiday décor. Woodward said shoppers looking for Christmas or other holiday decorations will likely find plenty to choose from.

The Gold Merchants Building will include harder items such as priced furniture, more than 3,000 books, men’s tools, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, and other household items.

Friday will also feature the popular bag sale, with shoppers able to fill a bag for $6. Other items may be available through negotiated donations.

Woodward said 100% of the money raised stays local and goes directly toward helping cancer patients in Ashland County.

“We transport individuals to their cancer-related appointments,” Woodward said. “We give away Boost nutritional drink in the tune of about 812 cases a year. We provide financial stipends and travel stipends for people going back and forth. We help with medications, and the list just keeps continuing.”

Woodward said the event would not be possible without the generosity of the Ashland community.

“We couldn’t do this without the community helping us,” she said. “Ashland has always been a very giving community.”

Residents are encouraged to bring friends and family, shop for bargains and support the Ashland County Cancer Association’s mission of helping local cancer patients and their families.
