Dump Truck Rollover on State Route 13 Spills Gravel, Diesel Fuel
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash involving a dump truck on State Route 13 Friday afternoon.
The crash happened around 12:35 p.m. on State Route 13 and brought a response from the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Franklin Fire Department and EMS, and the Shelby Fire Department Hazmat trailer.
According to a witness, a 1991 Freightliner USF1E dump truck was traveling northbound on State Route 13 when the driver, identified as Carl Murphy, 76, of Mansfield, reportedly went off the right side of the roadway to avoid striking a car in the road.
The dump truck rolled onto its side, spilling its load of gravel across the area and leaking a large amount of diesel fuel. Due to the fuel spill, hazmat resources were called to assist at the scene.
Murphy reported minor injuries following the crash.
According to information from the scene, Murphy was cited for failure to control.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
